Ottawa’s new Women Physicians’ rock choir debuts January 25, 2023!

Ottawa has a brand new choir calling it home. Voices Rock Canada has established Voices Rock Medicine in town, a 60-voice choir made up of women physicians, under the direction of Elise Letourneau. The choir presents its debut concert on Wednesday January 25 at 7:30pm at Emmanuel United Church, 691 Smyth Road. Sue Turpin and Jennie Seaborn join the band on guitar and drums for the evening. The choir is excited to welcome special guest emcee Amy Volume, daytime radio host on Ottawa’s Rock Station CHEZ 106 FM.

The Ottawa choir is the newest of a family of doctors’ choirs under the umbrella of the Voices Rock Canada organization, with 2 sister choirs in Toronto, and an online choir welcoming doctors from all over Canada and the U.S. Voices Rock Medicine is a choir of diverse women physicians who find joy, connection, and inspiration through singing. Learning custom arrangements of rock and pop songs, it’s a welcoming and safe space to decompress and recharge with the energy that music and a supportive community offer, leaving other stresses at the door for a little while each week. While enjoying themselves, the singers work hard when they are together, and Voices Rock Medicine choirs have appeared on Canada’s Got Talent and on CBC Radio.

The choir is preparing for 2 concerts this season, and welcomes the possibility of additional appearances. Believing that everyone should feel the joy that comes from singing and connecting in a choir community, Voices Rock Canada strives for an excellent choral experience, combining discipline and fun with professional, structured direction and proper singing techniques. VRC’s live rehearsal format, concerts and events, often with multiple live musicians, always present exciting, original arrangements of contemporary repertoire.

Based in Toronto, and currently in its 7th season, VRC are “Rock Choirs for the 21st Century”, inclusive of all abilities and backgrounds. There are 4 different choirs: Voices Rock Kids for grades 4-12, Voices Rock Ensemble for ages 18+, Voices Rock Prime for retirees and seniors (daytime), and Voices Rock Medicine for women physicians.
